Accessibility
Breakwater Web Co wants this website to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or reduced motion settings. The aim is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What I’ve done
- Clear headings and page landmarks
- Text and colours checked for contrast in both light and dark mode
- Every image either described or marked as decorative
- The whole site works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link
- The main buttons and links are at least 44 pixels high on phones, and every other link or button is at least 24 pixels
- Animations respect your device’s reduced motion setting and the moving phone demo can be paused
- Text can be zoomed to 200% without content getting cut off
- The enquiry form has proper labels and clear error messages
How it was tested
Each page is checked with the axe accessibility testing tool in light and dark mode, on desktop and phone sizes, every time the site changes. Every page is also checked at 200% zoom to make sure no text is cut off or covered. The site was also checked by hand using only a keyboard. Last reviewed: 5 October 2026.
Known limitations
The example websites linked from the Examples section are demos of fictional businesses. They are tested the same way, but their sample text and photos are for display only.
Screen reader testing with NVDA and VoiceOver is still to be completed. If you find something that doesn’t work for you, please let me know.
